Tirzepatide has serious risks. The US label carries a thyroid C-cell tumour warning based on animal studies; human risk is unknown. It must not be used with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, MEN 2, or a serious allergy to tirzepatide.
Common effects include nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting and constipation. Other risks include severe digestive problems, pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, dehydration-related kidney injury and low blood sugar with some diabetes medicines.
